While beginners can study the foundations of playing technique, basic understanding of chords and scales or just jam on their favourite songs, more advanced players are able to concentrate on the areas and styles that they want and need to work on. Topics include advanced techniques such as slapping, popping and tapping, detailed studies in the application of music theory, creating walking bass lines (including chromaticism), understanding common grooves in different genres and finding the most suitable tones for different situations. The Rhythm Studio offer lessons for 4, 5 and 6 string electric or acoustic bass, as well as fretless or upright basses. Rockschool examination preparation is also available for those who want to study for bass guitar grade examinations. These examinations allow you to prepare pieces in the styles of music you enjoy, and develop technical ability, improvisation and listening skills.  The Rhythm Studio also organises band jam sessions for children aged 8-16 who want to form bands.  This is a great way to gain experience playing with other musicians, develop song-writing skills and practise playing in a live situation at our regular concerts.
