Rock & Roll Boot Camp arrives in East London!

Rock & Roll Boot Camp - new East London venue

Alongside two camps at The Rhythm Studio’s West London HQ this Easter, we will also be taking Rock & Roll Boot Camp to East London for the first time. The East London camp will take place at Access Creative College’s new state-of-the-art music facilities in Whitechapel. For the Friday gig we’ll be at a new venue for us - The Water Rats in Kings Cross!

Rock & Roll Boot Camp is the ultimate opportunity for young musicians aged 8-16 to spend a week forming bands and producing tracks, then showcase their skills at one of London’s top music venues.

Having run over 125 camps during Rock & Roll Boot Camp’s 15 year history, the courses have now become an institution for London’s up-and-coming young musicians. Notable Rock & Roll Boot Camp alumni include Beabadoobee guitarist Jacob Bugden, BAFTA award winning actor Sebastien Croft, Mathew Cartlidge of The Molotovs and hip-hop artist El Londo.

  • Easter Week 1: Tuesday 2nd - Friday 5th April 2024 (Barons Court)

  • Easter Week 2: Monday 8th - Friday 12th April 2024 (Barons Court & Whitechapel)

Rock & Roll Bootcamp: February 2024

Last week we held one of our holiday Rock & Roll Bootcamps. Following our usual structure of running four days of tutored sessions where the students form bands together and learn to play a couple of different songs to perform at the end of the week with our friends at Pizza Express in Holborn.

Last week saw the return of our legendary Rock & Roll Boot Camp course during February half term. Boot campers aged 8-16 took part in four days of rehearsals, songwriting and production classes at our studios in West London, followed by a performance with with our friends at Pizza Express Live Holborn in London’s West End. It was a memorable and busy week, with young musicians from all over London working hard to prepare their setlist for the gig at the end of the week.

Rock & Roll Bootcamp: October 2023

A few weeks ago we hosted one of our Rock n Roll Bootcamps, where we had a sold out week of students coming into The Rhythm Studio to prepare for a concert with our friends at the Pizza Express Jazz Club in Holborn.

In October half term we hosted one of our Rock & Roll Bootcamps, where we had 8 bands at The Rhythm Studio preparing for a concert with our friends at the Pizza Express Jazz Club in Holborn.

At the end of the week, the students performed at the Pizza Express Jazz Club in Holborn.

Across the week we had students performing a wide variety of different songs, from ‘Highway To Hell’ originally by Classic Rock Icons ‘ACDC’, to early 2000s Pop Punk gem ‘Wake Me Up When September Ends’ by Green Day. We had a fully booked Boot Camp, with students coming from all sorts of different musical backgrounds, from Pop to Jazz, and Electronic to Alternative.

The performance at the end of the week at The Pizza Express Jazz Club was one of the busiest we’ve ever seen in over one hundred boot camp weeks across our time running the camp. All of the tables were filled with parents, grandparents, friends of the students and family friends who came to support their children and watch them perform.

Summer of Rock and Roll 2023: A Boot Camp Retrospective

Relive our Summer Rock and Roll Bootcamp workshops and get ready for the next batch coming early next year!

Autumn is here, windy and rainy weather followed by dark skies earlier in the day and the incoming Winter cold. With this it’s easy to look back and reminisce on the warmer times, Summer. Here at The Rhythm Studio we had a particularly busy Summer, whilst our Sixth Formers and our extra-curricular students took the six weeks off, we spent five weeks running our Rock and Roll Boot Camp courses.

Our Boot Camp programme takes the rockstars of tomorrow, forms them into bands with other people their age, then they learn songs and work together to perform them with our friends at Pizza Express Live in Holborn.

Over the course of the Summer programme we had around 50 bands formed, 100 songs learned, 5 concerts played to over 500 crowd members, made up of the students’ families and friends.

Whenever Boot Camp season rolls around it’s always super interesting to see which songs the bands pick, as all of the students come from varying musical backgrounds, and this Summer was no different. We had people from Jazz and Classical backgrounds, through to the more alternative Indie, Rock and Punk crowd. This didn't stop everybody getting along and picking tracks to perform that fed into everyone’s strengths.

The bands performed a wide variety of different genres from pure 90s Pop-Punk in the shape of Blink-182’s ‘All The Small Things’, mid 2000s Emo with Paramore’s ‘Misery Business’ and some modern Pop with Imagine Dragon’s hit ‘Radioactive’.

As a part of the weeks activities students also took part in our ‘Beat Camp’ project. ‘Beat Camp’ introduces the students to Music Production and allows them the chance to create their own music from scratch. Throughout the week they study different genres and styles of music and what makes each genre its own. Following this they will create their own tracks in whichever style they choose.

Want to get involved next year? Well good news! Sign ups are now available for the next wave of Rock and Roll Boot Camp. We have a week in February Half Term and two weeks across the Spring Break. Please see the dates listed below:
