RSF Scholarship Profiles -Taj

The Rhythm Studio Foundation Scholarship is an annual award aimed at talented and passionate 11 to 18 year-old musicians in need of financial support to help reach their full potential. The scheme is now in its 8th year and in total we have made over 50 awards of between 50% -100% of music tuition fees. Many of our Alumni have gained places at leading music colleges and universities to continue their musical journey.

As we welcome our new group of RSF music scholars for 2020-21, we say goodbye to a number of long-standing scholarship holders who have spent several years at the Rhythm Studio. They are now joining our growing group of Alumni and we’d like to share some of their stories with you as well as wish them good luck in the future.

Taj Wilmott

Taj has held an RSF Scholarship for 5 years. Initially starting on drums, Taj has enjoyed being a drummer in a band and more latterly has developed her voice and enjoys performing as a solo singer. She has also completed The Rhythm Studio’s Sixth Form programme.

Taj loves to listen to Jazz and Funk music but tends to perform more R&B and Neo Soul. During lockdown she released a single with her friend LEPRO and has been working on a concept EP with a fellow sixth former.

Her inspirations include Billy Holiday, Nina Simone, Hailey Tuck and Snarky Puppy and on her current playlist you’ll find Maze Happy Feeling.

Taj says: “The Rhythm Studio Foundation has given me the chance to better myself to be a self- sufficient musician. I have been able to make connections with people that I have created music with and made musical bonds to work with in future. I have also been able to gain a sense of confidence due to the encouragement to perform”
