RSF Scholarship Profiles: Asia

The Rhythm Studio Foundation Scholarship is an annual award aimed at talented and passionate 11 to 18 year-old musicians in need of financial support to help reach their full potential. The scheme is now in its 8th year and in total we have made over 50 awards of between 50% -100% of music tuition fees. Many of our Alumni have gained places at leading music colleges and universities to continue their musical journey.

I’ve had a scholarship with The Rhythm Studio Foundation for 5 years since the age of 12

and play piano, guitar and sing. I’ve played piano for 5 years with Maja who is still my teacher. Outside of RS, I attend ‘Future Talent’ which invites me to workshop at The Royal Academy of Music to work with other musicians. I also have singing lesson through my school, where I work through my musical theatre singing grades. I prefer solo performances.

Much of what I listen is are starting to reflect my songwriting positively and these genres are bedroom pop, contemporary R&B/soul R&B and Alternative indie. Especially since lockdown, I've been focusing on my song writing and honing my craft, which I personally believe I've improved. In school we are doing a protest unit, so I've been studying protest songs and writing my own. This was very similar to my last project which was to write two songs from different genres. My favourite artists are Rex Orange Country, Frank Ocean, Tyler the Creator, Clario, Joji, Beabadoobee and Girl in Red. The artists that inspire me are Her, Daniel Ceaser and Billie Ellish. At the moment my favourite song is

“Slow Dancing in the Dark” by Joji and I'm listening to Joji and Beabadoobee.

This scholarship has changed my life. The Rhythm Studio basically introduced me to music and without that I would not have gotten into BRIT, or on the path that I am now. I will always be grateful to RS for that, they have helped me grow as a person and a musician.

My dream is to be a singer/songwriter therefore in the future I want to tour around different cities performing the music I write and collaborating with my favourite artist.

My next step in music is to start making demos and find the right producer, so that I can record an EP. I also plan to go to university and further my education within music.
